Maxima is continuing to monitor the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation and its potential spread. The health and wellbeing of our staff, Host Employers and you as one of our apprentices or trainees is important to us.

We are encouraging all our apprentices and trainees to practice reasonable social distancing and good hygiene at this time and to follow official recommendations provided by state and federal government authorities.

We invite you to contact us directly if you have any questions related to your employment, however, we also provide the following general advice and guidance which may be of assistance:

What happens if I become unwell?
It is particularly important at this time that you stay at home if you are unwell.  You will be able to access your sick leave entitlements. Please contact your Consultant to discuss whether a medical certificate will be required for your time off.  Where you have not accrued the required amount of entitlements your Consultant can advise you of your options.

What happens if I am required to self-isolate?
There are several circumstances under which individuals are legally required to isolate themselves from the general population including recent overseas travel or close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19.

If you are required to self-isolate, please contact us to discuss appropriate leave arrangements.

What happens if I want to stay home as a precaution?
Unless you have a medical condition or you are legally required to self-isolate, you do not necessarily have an entitlement to take sick leave. However, you may be able to negotiate with Maxima and your Host Employer to take annual leave, RDOs, work from home or take leave without pay. We may also agree to approve the use of your accrued sick leave.

What if there are changes to your Host’s business as a result of COVID-19?
There are a range of ways that COVID-19 is impacting businesses such as: reduced economic activity or a company decision for employees to socially distance themselves through working from home arrangements.  It is also possible that a workplace may need to be temporarily closed due to a confirmed case of COVID-19.

We are committed to working with your Host Employer to manage these situations should they arise.

In closing, although these are times of uncertainty what we do know is that COVID-19 spreads primarily from person to person contact. We urge you not to panic as most people infected with COVID-19 will only have mild symptoms and fully recover, however, now is the time to focus on maximising your chances of keeping yourself and those around you healthy.

If you have any questions regarding the content of this communication please do not hesitate to contact your Maxima Consultant.
