Position: GIS Project Officer

Location: Berrinba or Mutdapilly

Employment Type: Mon – Fri, 36.25 hrs a week until June 2026

Payrate:  $68/hr + super

Maxima is currently seeking various highly motivated individuals as a GIS Project Officer for one of our government clients.

About the role:

As a Project Officer, you will play a vital role in coordinating and delivering aerial fire ant treatment initiatives, ensuring compliance with biosecurity regulations and fostering strong relationships with landholders and industries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure landholders understand and meet biosecurity legislative requirements, including timely and accurate reporting of fire ant presence and treatment.
  • Use Geographic Information System (GIS) tools to map treatment zones, plan aerial treatment activities, record field data and support spatial decision-making. Maintain accurate records in internal systems.
  • Deliver technical advice on effective fire ant management strategies, including risk mitigation, treatment, surveillance, and compliance with reporting obligations.
  • Participate in stakeholder workshops, maintaining strong relationships and providing subject matter expertise aligned with Queensland biosecurity legislation.
  • Manage and monitor project activities, deliverables, and associated risks, including the preparation of farm assessments, fire ant self-management plans, and internal data records.
  • Provide operational support to the FAST and contribute to broader NFAEP eradication objectives.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team environment, engaging with stakeholders across government and industry.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • A current, unrestricted ‘C’ class driver’s licence
  • Experience using GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping, treatment planning, and spatial analysis in environmental or land management contexts.
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency, or a visa with work rights
  • Ability to provide evidence of work rights and notify the department of any changes.
  • Travel within the suppression area and across Southeast Queensland may be required.
  • A current Criminal History Check must be confirmed prior to commencement.

Highly Desirable:

  • A qualification or relevant experience in agriculture, natural resource management, stakeholder engagement, or communication, particularly with primary producers or rural communities
