The Role:

Location: Cleveland QLD
Duration: 12-month Traineeship
Start Date: February 2026

As a Horticulture Trainee, you will work alongside experienced mentors to create and maintain parks and gardens across the local council area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain parks and gardens, including planting, pruning, mulching, and watering
  • Operate tools and machinery for mowing, brush cutting, and general upkeep
  • Control pests and weeds and install irrigation systems
  • Keep outdoor spaces tidy and safe by inspecting and repairing playgrounds and park furniture
  • Use equipment like hedgers, blowers, chainsaws, and pressure cleaners
  • Follow safety procedures while working in a team or independently

As part of your Traineeship, you’ll join Redland City Council’s Professional Development Program, giving you structured learning, networking opportunities, and exposure to Council-wide operations.

About You:

To be successful in this Traineeship, you will need to:

  • Enjoy working outdoors and using garden tools
  • Be punctual, reliable and have a strong work ethic
  • Prioritise tasks effectively under pressure
  • Work well independently and in a team
  • Have great communication skills
  • Have a can-do attitude and be willing to learn
  • Be safety-conscious and willing to follow procedures

Role Requirements:

  • Driver’s licence and reliable vehicle
  • Good physical fitness for manual tasks
  • Be willing to complete a pre-employment functional assessment (including drug and alcohol screening)
  • Previous experience in gardening, horticulture or similar trades (advantageous)
