The Burnside Library is a public library in the City of Burnside. Located on the corner of Greenhill and Portrush Roads, it is part of the Burnside Civic Centre. The library was one of the first public libraries in South Australia, opening to the public on 8 April 1961.

The Role:

Maxima, and the City of Burnside, are looking for an energetic and empathetic individual to undertake a Business Traineeship within the Community Learning team.

As the trainee Library Officer you will assist in providing a consistently high standard of customer focused library services and resources to the community.

Throughout this 18-month, fulltime opportunity you will gain hands-on experience, paid training and continuous mentoring towards gaining a nationally recognised Certificate III in Business.

If successful, you will be based at the Burnside Library where the roster for this role will be 38 hours across Monday-Sunday.

Duties Include:

  • Undertake a range of library and community services activities including loans/returns, searching and reserving items, shelving and membership registrations 
  • Provide proactive value-added customer service 
  • Assist customers to access information technology including internet facilities, printer/scanner and online databases
  • Contribute towards library and community events and promotions

  • A kind and empathetic nature
  • Ability and willingness to learn
  • Takes initiative and strong problem-solving skills
  • Generally fit and healthy, with the ability to stand for periods of time or kneel

Role Requirements:

  • Flexibility to work various work hours 
  • Driver’s licence and access to reliable vehicle 
  • National Police, Working with Children and NDIS Clearances (or willing to obtain)
  • Satisfactorily pass a pre-employment medical assessment 
  • Influenza vaccination (or willing to obtain)
  • Customer service experience (desirable)
