Celebrating Success in the 2026 SA & WA AEN Awards: Elkira and Mia Recognised as 2026 Awards Finalists

Maxima is proud to celebrate and recognise the achievements of two outstanding trainees, Elkira and Mia, who have been named as finalists in the 2026 Apprentice Employment Network Awards SA & WA.

Elkira has been nominated as a finalist for Trainee of the Year at the SA Awards and Mia has been named a finalist in the WA Awards for Excellence.

Their journeys highlight the power of traineeships in creating meaningful career pathways, building confidence, and supporting long-term success.

Elikira’s journey from Maxima trainee to valued full-time employee

Elkira’s journey began at Maxima in 2024 starting a traineeship in Administration. Growing up, her family have had a connection with Maxima, for over 20 years. Since commencing her traineeship, she has successfully transitioned into a permanent full-time role within Maxima’s First Nations team.

Originally coming from a hospitality background, Elkira had always aspired to pursue a career in administration and find a way to help others.

“Maxima helped me obtain a career which allowed me to do just that, and I will forever be grateful for the journey and opportunities I have had.

You never know where the opportunities you say yes to lead you and that is exactly what happened with me. I have achieved and experienced things I would never see myself doing when I was younger.”

Her hard work and dedication have led to an impressive year of recognition. After being named the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year at the 2026 South Australian Training Awards, she will soon also represent South Australia at the Australian Training Awards in Sydney this November.

Mia’s pathway to success with Qantas at Perth Airport

Mia completed her school-based traineeship in Customer Service with Qantas at Perth Airport while completing Year 11 and 12. She approached every challenge with maturity, determination and a positive attitude.

Throughout her traineeship, Mia demonstrated a strong willingness to learn, never hesitating to ask questions or seek guidance from those around her.

Now, in her last few weeks of Year 12, her commitment to making the most of every opportunity helped her develop valuable workplace skills. The Qantas team described her as a valued team member who grew in confidence and navigated each opportunity that come her way with enthusiasm and professionalism.

Mia’s success reflects not only her own dedication and hard work, but also the strength of the partnership between Maxima and Qantas in creating meaningful pathways for First Nations young people.

Elkira and Mia have both embraced the opportunities presented through their traineeships, demonstrating dedication, resilience and a commitment to personal and professional growth.

Their achievements are a testament to the positive impact traineeships can have in helping people build skills, confidence and rewarding careers.

Congratulations, Elkira and Mia, on these well-deserved recognitions. Everyone at Maxima is incredibly proud of your achievements and wishes you both the very best at your upcoming awards ceremonies and future career journeys.
