Ever Dream of Leaving your Mark on the World?
Are you fascinated by the intricate details of buildings and how they take shape? If you’re looking for a stable career with endless possibilities, then construction might be the perfect fit for you!
Having the proper knowledge and qualifications makes entering the construction industry much smoother. Maxima can give you a head start, and help you discover potential career pathways and support you every step of the way.
Why choose construction?
The construction industry is a powerhouse in Australia, generating nearly $360 billion in annual revenue - offering a vast range of exciting careers. It’s a sector brimming with:
- Excellent Job Prospects: The construction industry is booming, with new projects constantly underway. As a matter of fact, Housing Australia has estimated more than 1.8 million new households are expected to form in the next 9 years. This ensures high job security and a consistent demand for skilled workers with the right qualifications.
- Solid Salaries: Construction careers offer competitive salaries, with some specialisations reaching very lucrative levels as you gain experience and qualifications.
- Meaningful Work: You’ll see the tangible results of your hard work every day, contributing to the development of your community and leaving a lasting legacy.
There’s always room to learn, grow and transition within the industry. You can kickstart your career as a carpentry apprentice and work your way towards becoming a construction manager. Or, for the more entrepreneurial types, you can launch your own construction business, working independently or building a team of your own.
The path you choose is entirely up to you, and it’s one of the many reasons this career choice is sought after.
Where do I start?
Whether you are transitioning jobs, fresh out of school looking to start your career or wanting direction, Maxima can help you obtain the necessary qualifications required to transition into your future career.
Through Maxima’s Apprenticeship or Traineeship program, you can combine on-the-job experience alongside your theoretical learnings, all while being paid.
There are a variety of professions within the construction sector, including:
- Carpenters: The jack-of-all-trades, responsible for framing structures, installing windows and doors, and building cabinets.
- Bricklayers: Craftsmen who construct sturdy walls and foundations using bricks or blocks. They ensure the structural integrity of buildings.
- Tilers: They install tiles, such as ceramic or porcelain, to create functional surfaces. They work on floors, walls, and countertops.
- Welders: Play a crucial role in bridge and building construction by using heat to join metal structures together.
- Laborers: Form the backbone of the construction crew, assisting skilled workers and keeping the workflow running smoothly.
- Wall and Ceiling Lining (Plasters): They prepare surfaces by applying plaster, creating smooth and even surfaces ready for painting.
- Painters: Artists who transform surfaces with colour and texture. They not only enhance the look, but also the durability of buildings and other structures.
These occupations only scratch the surface of the many roles you can specialise in on your journey of becoming a qualified tradesperson.
Completing an Apprenticeship or Traineeship is only the beginning. Once you’re qualified, you might want to start your own business, specialise in certain areas, or pursue higher-level roles in the industry, such as Site Supervisor, Construction Manager, or Construction Planner.
