The Role
Location: Surrey Downs SA
Duration: 36‑month full-time Traineeship
As a Conservation and Ecosystem Management Trainee, you will gain practical experience working across parks, reserves, and natural areas within the council region.
This traineeship is designed to launch your career in environmental management, horticulture, and sustainability.
Under the guidance of experienced mentors, your responsibilities will include:
- Operating brush cutters and other garden tools
- Controlling weeds and pests
- Collecting and propagating native seeds
- Implementing revegetation and habitat restoration works
- Sampling and testing soil and water
- Preparing and applying chemicals
- Supporting broader conservation and land‑care activities
About You
To be successful in this Traineeship, you will:
- Enjoy working outdoors and using a variety of tools and equipment
- Be punctual, reliable, and demonstrate a strong work ethic
- Prioritise tasks effectively, even when working under pressure
- Work well both independently and as part of a team
- Communicate clearly and confidently
- Have a genuine passion for environmental conservation and a strong desire to protect and restore natural space
Role Requirements
- Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
- Good physical fitness to perform manual labour tasks
- Willingness to undertake a pre‑employment assessment, including drug and alcohol screening
- Previous experience in gardening, horticulture, conservation or similar trades (advantageous but not essential)
