First Nations Customer Service Traineeship – School-Based | Commonwealth Bank

Kickstart your deadly career with Maxima and the Commonwealth Bank in a School-Based Traineeship where you combine paid employment with completion of your secondary school studies. 

A School-Based Traineeship is a paid opportunity allowing students to gain firsthand industry experience while working towards a qualification that contributes to their High School Certificate. Students still attend school while working part time to complete their Traineeship.

The Role: 

As a School Based Trainee, you will provide exceptional service to customers by working in the branch one day a week and attending school for the others. 

There are multiple opportunities available, due to commence early January 2026.

Under the guidance of experienced mentors, your responsibilities will include:

  • Welcome customers and offer exceptional service 
  • Assist with bank transactions, cash handling and savings needs
  • Educate customers on digital banking services
  • Provide relevant advice to customers 
  • Follow-up customer enquiries, delegating where required

About You: 

  • Positive and proactive approach
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative
  • Ability to build rapport with a variety of people 
  • Great communication skills, written and verbal 
  • Strong work ethic; punctual and reliable 
  • Strong computer knowledge including Microsoft Office 

Role Requirements:

  • Identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Commencing Year 11 in 2026
  • Aged 16 years or above (or turning 16 within 3 months of commencement)
  • Able to provide 100 points of identification to complete a background check
  • Able to work a week block during the January school holidays
