The Indigenous / First Nations Trainee role has been established to provide meaningful employment, training and career development opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The trainee will gain practical workplace experience while completing a nationally recognised qualification (where applicable), supported by their manager, mentor and training provider.
This role is designed to build foundational skills, confidence and industry knowledge while providing exposure to a professional working environment and opportunities for long-term employment.
The position involves working outdoors across a variety of metropolitan and regional sites in South Australia and may require travel to different project locations. Work is undertaken in a range of weather conditions and environments, with safety and wellbeing remaining a priority at all times.

We provide a collaborative approach when providing coaching and mentoring in First Nations Traineeships, with regular in person visits and continuous support.

- Participate in on-the-job training and formal learning requirements.
- Attend scheduled TAFE/training provider classes and study days unless approved leave applies.
- Complete all coursework, assessments and workplace evidence within required timeframes, maintaining satisfactory progress as advised by the Registered Training Organisation (RTO).
- Assist the team with day-to-day operational and operational support activities.
- Successfully progress through each stage/year of the traineeship and complete the qualification within the expected contract timeframe (subject to RTO requirements).
- Learn and apply workplace systems, policies and procedures.
- Maintain a safe, respectful and inclusive working environment.
- Comply with all Work Health and Safety (WHS) requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Build positive working relationships with colleagues, customers and stakeholders.
- Attend mentoring, coaching and development sessions as required.

Qualifications
Essential
- Eligibility to undertake a traineeship.
- Identification as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person (this is an identified position under the relevant provisions of anti-discrimination legislation).
- Current and valid driver’s licence.
- Access to reliable personal transport to travel between metropolitan and regional work sites.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
- Current Construction Induction (White Card), or the ability and willingness to obtain one prior to commencing work on construction sites.
Desirable
- Completion of Year 10, 11 or 12 (or equivalent).
- Basic computer skills.
