Learn to Swim Instructor – Infant & Toddler Program

Position Purpose
 
The Learn to Swim Instructor – Infant & Toddler Program is responsible for delivering safe, engaging and developmentally appropriate aquatic classes for infants and toddlers (6 months to 4 years) at The ARC Campbelltown. The role focuses on water familiarisation, confidence building and foundational skill development through structured play, songs and guided activities. Working closely with parents or guardians in the water, the instructor promotes bonding, safety awareness and positive early aquatic experiences while maintaining the highest standards of supervision and child safety.
 
Key Duties / Responsibilities
 
You will be based in the aquatics space and have the following responsibilities:
 
Program Delivery

  • Deliver structured Infant and Toddler Learn to Swim classes in accordance with ARC program guideline
  • Utilise songs, games, toys and repetition-based learning to promote water confidence and skill development
  • Teach water familiarisation techniques appropriate to age and developmental readiness
  • Ensure classes are delivered in a safe, supportive and engaging manner

 Parent & Guardian Engagement

  • Provide clear guidance to parents/guardians who are required to enter the water during classes
  • Educate parents on correct holds, positioning and safe water practices Support positive bonding experiences between parent and child
  • Encourage consistent participation and progression within the program

 Child Development & Skill Progression

  • Support the development of motor skills, coordination and sensory awareness
  • Monitor child readiness for skill progression
  • Provide feedback to parents regarding development and transition pathways to independent classes
  • Promote social interaction among children and families within the program

 Safety & Supervision

  • Maintain vigilant supervision of all participants at all times
  • Apply safe handling techniques for infants and toddlers
  • Monitor water temperature and environmental factors relevant to infant participation
  • Respond to incidents or emergencies in accordance with ARC procedures
  • Complete incident documentation as required

 Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Ensure compliance with WHS requirements and aquatic safety standards
  • Maintain current qualifications and professional registration Adhere to Child Safe principles and maintain appropriate professional boundaries
  • Present professionally in accordance with ARC uniform standards

 Qualifications Required for your Position:

  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant & Preschool Aquatics (or equivalent infant extension) (Valid for 3 years)
  • DHS – working with children’s check issued July 2019 onwards (Valid for 5 years)
  • National Police Clearance (Valid for 3 years)
  • 7-Hour Child Safe Environment Training (Valid for 3 years)
  • First Aid Certificate (Valid for 3 years)
  • CPR (Valid for 1 year)
