Maxima’s Recruitment Services are on the hunt for a needle in a haystack in the form of an experienced Natural Areas Team Member to join their client, a large local council with work based out of Marsden.
The Natural Areas Team Member is responsible for the on-ground maintenance works associated with the implementation of bushland maintenance work programs including natural areas general maintenance, bushland rehabilitation, fire management, prescribed burn preparation and natural areas audit programs.
This casual assignment will see you working a 9 day fortnight for a 5 month assignment, possibility of extension pending client needs. Casual hourly pay is $39.00 + super.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of walking tracks, trails and fire access lines, use of plant and equipment, undertaking weed control, undertaking erosion control, prescribed burn site preparation, natural area restoration works, and site inspections
- Oversee the activities of the work team as required including minor contracted works, volunteers, trainees, students and labour market participants in a variety of environments including remote locations
- Respond to bushland maintenance Customer Service Requests within the area of responsibility
- Participate as an active team member during prescribed burn operations
- Follow communications plan and Chain of Command
- Respond to wildfire outbreaks and other emergencies within council’s natural area reserves
- Admin duties including maintaining accurate GIS, word and database records and registers, daily herbicide registers, GIS data input and maintenance registers
Experienced required:
- Demonstrated practical field experience and specialist skills in Natural Areas operations including bushland maintenance, weed/erosion control
- Safe and competent operation of small plant and equipment
- Natural Areas restoration and walking track maintenance
- Knowledge and identification skills relating to indigenous flora and fauna and exotic species
- Hands on experience in all aspects of planned burning activities and wildfire control strategies and techniques, including the implementation of WH&S policies and procedures in relation to fire management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use a computer and associated systems including GIS
Licenses and Certificates required:
- Current C class drivers license
- ACDC operators license
- Level 1 firefighting qualification
- Chainsaw certificate
- White Card
