Position: P03 Fisheries Biologist
Location: Cairns
Pay Rate: $61/hr – 67/hr + super (depending on the experience)
Contract: Mon – Fri, 38 hrs a week, 12 months with possibility of extension upto 24 months more
Maxima’s Recruitment Services is currently seeking highly motivated individuals Biologist for one of our government clients.
Primary Role Purpose: We are seeking a motivated and skilled Biologist to join our state government team. This role is essential in supporting research across Queensland, focusing on the biology and ecology of tropical species, their habitats, and associated assessment methods. The successful candidate will engage with various stakeholders, contribute to fieldwork, and play a crucial role in the publication of research findings.
In this role, you will:
- Liaise, network, and collaborate with Client stakeholders across Queensland.
- Organise, prepare, and participate in fieldwork, often at short notice, in challenging conditions such as remote areas, at sea, and during adverse weather.
- Collect, manage, and analyse Client-related data, ensuring quality assurance throughout the process.
- Interpret research results and contribute to the timely publication of findings in scientific journals and reports.
- Objectively analyse and solve research-related problems, identifying innovative practices to enhance operations.
- Work effectively within a team of scientists and technical staff.
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government, community, and industry leaders.
- Ensure compliance with health and safety obligations during boat, field, and laboratory work.
- Assist in developing extension activities and materials to disseminate research results to relevant industries in Queensland.
Essential Requirements:
- A minimum of a Bachelor of Applied Science or Science in a relevant field (e.g., biology, ecology, environmental science) from a recognised tertiary institution, or equivalent academic qualifications.
- A current C class driver’s licence.
- In-depth understanding of commercial operations and gear performance.
- Knowledge and experience in the biology and ecology of tropical species and associated assessment methods.
- A recreational boat driver’s licence (highly desirable)
