Position: Senior Contracts and Projects Officer (Waste & Recycling)

Location: Logan

Pay Rate: $58.06/hr + super

Contract: Mon – Fri, 38 hrs a week until March 2025 with possibility of extension

Maxima’s Recruitment Services is currently seeking highly motivated individual for Senior Contract and Project officer for a Waste and Recycling Department for one of our local government clients.

Primary Role Purpose: This role is responsible for leading the development, procurement and management of waste and resource recovery contracts, as well as providing expertise in waste management projects and initiatives. The position focuses on achieving the objectives of the City’s Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy through effective stakeholder engagement and technical expertise.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the development, procurement, and management of waste and resource recovery contracts, including performance evaluation and issue resolution.
  • Identify, develop, and implement waste and recycling projects focused on improving resource recovery and circular economy outcomes.
  • Provide specialist advice on complex waste and recycling matters, including contract requirements and procurement processes.
  • Foster strong relationships with contractors, Council staff, and external stakeholders to deliver quality waste and recycling services.
  • Review and advise on Development Applications regarding waste collection systems and infrastructure, recommending improvements to Council policy.
  • Act as an escalation point for contract management, operational matters, and customer inquiries.
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes, and submissions to support decision-making processes.
  • Maintain knowledge of contemporary waste management practices, market trends, technologies, and processes to inform strategic initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant qualification with experience in waste management
  • Sound understanding of waste and recycling policies, legislation, and operational issues
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Extensive computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Valid C class driver’s license
