Swim Instructor – Infant & Preschool Aquatics

George Bolton Swimming Centre is seeking an experienced Infant & Preschool Swim Instructor to join the Burnside Swim School team for the 2026/27 outdoor season.
Set in the beautiful surrounds of Hazelwood Park, the Burnside Swim School operates in heated outdoor pools and provides a structured, safe, friendly and fun learning environment. The program has a strong focus on swimming, survival skills, water safety, confidence and helping students develop a healthy respect for the water.
This role focuses on our youngest swimmers, commencing from 12 months of age. You will work closely with parents and carers in the water to create positive early aquatic experiences and build strong foundations for future learning.
For an experienced teacher, this is an opportunity to enjoy regular set classes across Terms 4 and 1, bring your own teaching strengths to an established community program, and spend the summer doing what you do best – teaching, connecting with families and helping young swimmers thrive.
About the Role
As an Infant & Preschool Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, age-appropriate lessons that support early aquatic development, water confidence and safety.
Key responsibilities include:

  • delivering safe, engaging and well-structured infant and preschool aquatic classes;
  • using songs, games, movement, play and repetition to support confidence and early swimming skills;
  • teaching water familiarisation and water safety skills appropriate to each child’s age, development and readiness;
  • guiding parents and carers in safe holds, positioning and effective participation in the lesson;
  • adapting activities to individual needs, confidence levels and developmental stages;
  • observing progress and providing encouraging, practical feedback to parents and carers;
  • maintaining vigilant supervision and strong child-safe practices at all times; and
  • working collaboratively with the Swim School team to support program quality and consistency.

Swim School Hours
The Burnside Swim School operates during school Terms 4 and 1 of the outdoor season, with classes generally held:

  • Saturday mornings.

Opportunities to teach other levels on weekdays available. Regular, classes are allocated to provide consistency for teachers, children and families.
About You
You are an experienced teacher who understands that great infant and preschool instruction is built on trust, connection, sound technique and excellent communication with the parent or carer in the water.
You will bring:

  • demonstrated experience teaching infant and preschool aquatic classes;
  • a warm, confident and engaging teaching style;
  • the ability to connect naturally with young children, parents and carers;
  • strong knowledge of age-appropriate progression, water familiarisation and water safety;
  • patience, clear communication and the ability to explain the purpose behind activities;
  • high standards of supervision, class management and child safety;
  • reliability and commitment to regular shifts across the season; and
  • pride in delivering consistent, high-quality lessons.

Required Qualifications
Applicants must hold, or be able to provide evidence of, the following:

  • AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool Aquatics, or an equivalent recognised infant/preschool aquatic qualification;
  • current CPR certificate;
  • DHS Working with Children Check;
  • Child Safe Environments / RRHAN-EC training; (Masterclass) and
