Maxima, on behalf of their client, are seeking an experienced Technical Construction Officer for a 12-month assignment based in Brisbane. This role will be suitable for an experienced and qualified Carpenter or similar with residential construction experience.
Our client, a State Government department, provided adequate and suitable housing for members of the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families.
As part of the service delivery team, Property function, the Technical Construction Officer will help the broader team meet their delivery objectives for high quality housing services, including provisioning, maintenance services, stock management, housing allocation and living-in accommodation booking services.
On offer is a casual hourly pay of $76.17+ super with the possibility of some work from home (WFH) requirements.
Key Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Manage, coordinate and report on works completed by contractors including quality assurance, accuracy against scopes and ensure properties are rectified/upgraded in a timely manner
- Provide a high level of specialist technical advice and assistance with complex building maintenance issues to various stakeholders
- Review, assign and manage contractual defect maintenance requests promptly. Monitor and manage builders defect rectification performance and outcomes. Assist with the resolution of defect issues in line with the applicable legislation
- Conduct property inspections, identify and quantify issues, risks and defects to provide input to the appropriate stakeholders. Ensure the defect/issue is resolved in a timely manner
- Review and respond to professional building and pest inspections
- Draft scope of works when appropriate, provide advice and manage tender and procurement processes, in relation to minor works, construction, upgrades and heritage projects
- Provide contract administration support including progress monitoring and inspections, hold points, scope of works completion, processing of progress claims for payment and property handover processes
- Draft basic floor plans when required
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience within a residential construction environment with a carpentry and/or building background as well as trade or tertiary qualification in the construction industry
- Strong decision-making ability based on sound judgement, expertise and knowledge
- A strong ability to manage priorities, organise workloads and meet challenging deadlines under limited direction
- A demonstrated ability to read/interpret plans and specifications, using them as a tool along with the Australian Standards and National Construction Code to ensure the scope of works is being completed correctly
- Proven experience using a range of database and workflow management systems and experience using the Microsoft Office Suite
- Proven experience in developing plans and objectives for short-term tasks and contributing to strategic planning for longer-term initiatives
