Trainee – Library and Information Services

The Role:
  
Complete a nationally recognised Certificate IV Library and Information Services over 18 months while developing hands on experience across a variety of library functions.
  
As part of the Ipswich Libraries team, you will help community members access books, digital collections, technology, programs, and lifelong learning opportunities. You’ll contribute to daily operations including shelving, customer service, basic information enquiries, and problem solving within a dynamic library environment.
  
This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about literacy, learning, technology, and community engagement, and who wants to build a meaningful career in libraries.
  
Traineeship will commence in mid-May 2026.

Eligibility:
  
As council’s traineeships are funded in part by the Queensland Government’s Skilling Queenslanders for Work – First Start initiative, there are eligibility criteria that need to be met.
  
To be eligible to obtain a certificate during the traineeship, you need to:
  

  • Be a Queensland resident; and
  • Be aged 15 years or older and no longer at school; and
  • Be an Australian citizen or New Zealand citizen; or
  • Have a valid passport and have a visa that allows you to work (permanent residence visa, temporary protection visa, or temporary residence visa); and
  • Not have any existing qualifications in the field of study

  
You also need to be part of an identified disadvantaged group:
  

  • Young people (aged 15-24 years), including those in and transitioned from out-of-home care
  • Long term unemployed job seekers
  • Mature-aged job seekers (aged 45 years or older)
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Migrants and refugees from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • People with disability
  • Displaced workers
  • Women re-entering the workforce
  • Veterans, ex-ADF personnel and their families

Successful trainees must be eligible to work in Australia and agree to provide information for pre-employment screening which may include a criminal history check, pre-employment medical and Q Fever vaccination.
