Primary Duties
Team Leadership
Delegate tasks and issue instructions to Team Members within bounds of responsibility.
Ensure compliance with Council’s Code of Conduct and Position Description.
Mentor, train, and support team members’ skill development.
Facilitate team cohesion for effective and efficient operations.
Liaise with supervisor about team performance, project progression and problems.
Provide advice and support for creating and applying operational documents.
Choose appropriate materials and procedures for safe, efficient work.
Skills
The Urban Parks Team Leader role requires competitive leadership, technical expertise in both turf management and landscape maintenance, customer service, and specific qualifications.
Highly skilled and specialised experience in mowing & landscaping, operations & power tool and team leader/supervisor experience.
It is a requirement to be able to drive a truck up to 15t GVM with a tipper and at times, a trailer.
Demonstrated experience in coordinating and delivering a broad range of horticultural and grounds maintenance activities, including the upkeep and enhancement of parks, roadside landscapes, and recreational areas.
Extensive experience and proven capability in the safe and competent operation of plant and equipment relevant to the position are essential.
Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, and coordinate a work team, including a thorough working knowledge of the Workplace Health and Safety Act 2011.
Strong organisational skills, including the capacity to effectively plan, document, and coordinate team activities.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Basic computer literacy, including experience with internet use, smart devices, and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Key Qualifications and Requirements
- Horticulture: Level III Horticulture Certificate or equivalent work experience.
- Agricultural Chemical Distribution Certificate (AC/DC) certificate or equivalent
- MR truck license
- Level 1 Chainsaw Operation and Maintenance certification from a recognised provider, or ability to obtain it self-funded during probation
- White Card
- Australian work rights are essential for this position
Additional desirable experience, skills or qualification includes:
- A working knowledge of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Experience with traffic management and possession of a Traffic Management Implementation (TMI) License.
