Learning and Growing: Amber’s Work Experience Success

A recent six-week work experience placement at newsXpress Kingston Town, Tasmania, has provided Maxima Customer Amber with valuable hands-on workplace training and job sampling.

Supported by owners Vanessa and Brett with on-the-job guidance from Maxima NDIS Consultant Delecia, Amber stepped into the busy store each Monday eager to learn, grow, and contribute.

She quickly adapted to the workplace, developing her skills in customer service, merchandising, teamwork, and interacting with customers. This experience increased her confidence and built on her social connections. One of Amber’s many achievements was learning the process of restocking and returning magazines, a task she soon handled with growing confidence and independence.

Amber enjoyed engaging with the community, organising product displays, and using the point-of-sale system to serve customers. She also observed the sale of TattsLotto tickets and developed strong time management skills, ensuring every task was completed thoroughly and on time.

Amber’s enthusiasm and dedication during her six weeks at newsXpress did not go unnoticed. She became a valued part of the team, and while she will miss her Monday mornings at the store, she leaves with newfound confidence and practical experience to take into her future career.

A huge thank you to Vanessa and Brett for their support and mentorship – your generosity has made a real difference and has “reframed what is possible” for Amber as she further explores her own pathway to employment!
