Lily’s Journey: Building Skills and Confidence with Maxima and Baxters IGA

At the beginning of 2024, Lily joined Maxima’s NDIS Youth Employment Program (School Leaver Employment Supports). With the support of her NDIS Employment Consultant, Delecia they worked on improving Lily’s independence, financial literacy and community engagement skills to prepare her for employment. Throughout this process, Lily developed essential skills including managing a budget, recognising the value of money and building her resume.

As part of the program, Lily embarked on six weeks of work experience at Baxters IGA Snug (Tasmania). During this time, she demonstrated remarkable growth, confidently serving customers and smiling. In addition, she learned to operate the cash register, pack groceries, and arrange produce. This is all while building a strong rapport with customers and colleagues. Her ability to greet customers with warm phrases like “Hello, how are you?” and “Thank you, enjoy your day!” have left a positive impression.

The team at Baxters IGA has been incredibly supportive, helping Lily integrate into the workplace and providing guidance when needed. This collaborative environment has enabled Lily to develop both her technical and interpersonal skills.

Maxima is proud to celebrate Lily’s achievements and grateful for the partnership with Baxters IGA, a testimate to showcasing how to reframe what’s possible.
