[Jayden and Asha]
Maxima’s NDIS Consultant, Asha, provided strategic support to Jayden, a Year 12 student with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at New Norfolk High School.
With Asha’s guidance, the student progressed from struggling with his Certificate III in ICT to becoming a valued IT volunteer at Rosny Library.
Not only did he excel in his role, but he also gained the confidence to drive independently to his appointments, marking a significant milestone in his journey.
In early November 2022, the consultant identified Jayden, a student already on an NDIS plan, as a candidate for the Youth Employment (YE).
Despite beginning his Certificate III in ICT in March 2022, Jayden had only completed two units by late 2022 due to insufficient study support.
The consultant recommended the Youth Employment for Jayden. Shortly thereafter, he was able to commence the program at the Maxima office in New Norfolk and strategies were implemented to ensure Jayden could succeed in his study.
A meeting was also set up with Jayden’s workplace supervisor that led to significant improvements in his communication and teamwork.
As Jayden progressed with his goals, the consultant continued to assist him, including planning for his study sessions, workplace visits, and securing a working with vulnerable people check.
By March 2024, Jayden successfully completed his Certificate III in ICT, gained his driving license, and began volunteering as an IT helper at Rosny Library. His confidence and independence grew. The consultant’s goal before Jayden finishes his Youth Employment Program is to help him secure part-time IT-related employment.
Jayden humorously responds, when asked about this next step, ‘One thing at a time, Asha, one thing at a time.
