A different path for Amelia
Sometimes a traineeship leads you down a path you never thought you’d follow, as was the case for former Maxima trainee, Amelia.
Originally undertaking a Certificate III in Business, Amelia has since changed career course after experience she gained while working with Alwyndor Aged Care, in an administration role.
“My career path significantly changed after my traineeship,” Amelia said.
“The traineeship gave me an opportunity to learn what type of person I was in the workplace, my strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. As a result, in addition to administrative work, I started to do a few things for the marketing department.”
Now studying marketing at university, Amelia, who was awarded the 2020 Judge’s Choice Award for Excellent Customer Service by the City of Holdfast Bay Council, is looking to advance her studies into a future career in the field and is thankful she was able to seize an opportunity to help get her foot in the door of the industry.
“Maxima has shaped the vision for my career by helping me develop versatile skills in the workplace which are applicable within any industry and setting.”
“My traineeship was the perfect way to get comfortable working full-time and in a business environment.”
With real world business experience now behind her, and blazing a path to her future employment goals, Amelia wishes other young people would seize the fantastic opportunities traineeships can offer to school leavers.
“It’s hard to know what you want to do when you leave school and oftentimes, there can be pressure to go to university directly after high school.”
“However, I think being in a work environment teaches you more about who you are and what motivates you in the workplace and in life. My traineeship opened doors and gave me a greater confidence to face the big world.”
“A traineeship through Maxima is a great way to earn money, and more valuable skills.”
